A Word During Coronatide

“Come, let us return to the Lord; for he has torn, that he may heal us; he has stricken, and he will bind us up. After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will raise us up, that we may live before him. Let us know, let us press on to know the Lord; his going forth is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.”

Hosea 6:1-3 ʀꜱᴠ

In this house we believe in the mother of all sciences, theology; the study of the one Holy, true, just, beautiful, and righteous Triune God — the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Dear anti-mask people at CostCo, I see you and you look ridiculous with your nose hanging out and your loose masks. 😷

Assistance requested: Is the below an alb or a cassock-alb? Would you wear it over a traditional black cassock? Clergy Alb — I’m a choir dress kind of guy and I’m very confused by all of this.

Anyone else listening to the Excavator Song as a prelude to Church this morning?

Getting an alb for my ordination. 🤢 Why did people start wearing these? Traditional Anglican choir dress is far superior, IMHO.

Hanging out with my newest buddy. She’s pretty great. 💚

Dear protestors,

I agree, the police are too violent, the government doesn’t listen, and the sin of racism sits deep within our society. But… y’all are going to need to lay off desecrating the Holy Mother of God. She’s the prophet you want in times like these.

“My soul doth magnify the Lord. And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded : the lowliness of his handmaiden: For behold, from henceforth : all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath magnified me: and holy is his Name. And his mercy is on them that fear him: throughout all generations. He hath shewed strength with his arm: he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seat: and hath exalted the humble and meek. He hath filled the hungry with good things: and the rich he hath sent empty away. He remembering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel : As he promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his seed for ever. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son: and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be : world without end. Amen.”

I’m little bit obsessed with this little girl. 💚

Praise God! After a long night of temp checks and attempts to catheterize Virginia for a urine sample, the doctors have decided to release her. Still waiting on paperwork, etc., but I’m praying they’ll be home before lunch.

Results just came back. All negative! God is good! They think Virginia is just small and has trouble regulating her body temp. They are watching her overnight, but will most likely release her in the morning. Thanks for all the prayers!

Virginia has been admitted to Vanderbilt Children’s this morning with a low temperature. Because of COVID, I’m not allowed in. Please pray for her and Jennifer.

I like many things about St. Thomas, but the open arms of Christ welcoming my daughter out of the womb is the best.

ARM Macs solves a big quandary for me. Looks like I’ll get whatever the next Mac Mini is and an Intel machine for games/Linux.

NB: If you’re saying “black lives matter”, but you aren’t wearing a mask; I don’t believe you.

ἐκ παντὸς ἔθνους, Black lives matter

After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no man could number, from every nation — παντὸς ἔθνους —, from all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits upon the throne, and to the Lamb!” — Revelation 7:9-10 (RSV)

God will gather his people from pantos ethnous — every nation — around the throne of his Lamb. Kenyan, German, Chinese, Zulu, English — all nations will praise Christ in their own language and from their own culture. Black lives matter in this moment in history precisely for the same reason Hebrew lives mattered in Egypt. God is not colorblind! God’s favor and attention to the oppressed does not exclude others. The Church’s special attention to Black lives in this moment does not exclude her care for others. It is through God’s care of the Hebrews that all humankind is saved on the cross. In this moment, the Church’s attention and care towards our Black sisters and brothers will lead not just to their Exodus from systems of sin and oppression, but, through this Exodus, blessings for all of humankind. In Christ we are one Body. How glorious it would be and how great an offering to our Lord if we started acting like it.

The Magnificat is a political statement. Jesus is Lord of every facet of our lives or he has none. Secular versus Religious is a false dichotomy. The Christian cannot be Christian on Sunday and neutrally secular on Monday.
